This was an awesome activity! The girls put letters or objects on a black T-shirt and sprayed it with bleach. They took the letters or objects off and let the bleach react with the shirt to permanently change the color, making it loose color. When the girls had the lighter color they wanted then they sprayed it with white vinegar. The white vinegar stops the bleach from reacting anymore. It is a chemical change...it is SCIENCE!!!!!!
The girls either took home their shirts after we rinsed them or I brought them around to them the next day. The shirts turned out well.
We were glad to have the Cotton Manner Ward Activity Day Girls join us for the fun. Thanks for coming!
If you want to do this at home, then make sure you follow the instructions above in bold or contact Sister Cheesman for more help or spray bottles. *For the best results make sure your shirt is washed before you do it and make sure to take the objects or letters off the shirt right after you spray on the bleach, that way the bleach does not go through the paper onto the shirt. Remember, you don't have to have new shirts, they can be old worn shirts that you recycle and make into new shirts!
